When shopping for Ativan, you may come across Ativan manufactured by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals (India). It is available in a number of preparations that include a white round pill with RX 7 index written on one side (letters above number). Each pill contains 0.5mg Lorazepam (Ativan's generic and active agent).

RX 7 lorazepam is an anti-anxiety agent (one of benzodiazepines, a mild tranquilizer) used for the relief of anxiety, agitation and irritability, to relieve insomnia, to calm people with mania / schizophrenia and intravenously as a sedative and for nervous tension or to relieve anxiety prior to surgery. It has less of an effect on the liver than other benzodiazepines, making it better suited if you are taking birth control pills, anti-abuse drugs, propranolol, ulcer medications, or any other drug that affects the liver. Ativan tablet may also be used to help in the prevention of severe alcohol withdraw symptoms (Delirium Tremens, or DTs), to treat amnesia, or in patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and have severe vomiting. It may be given to children to treat serial seizures by placing it under the tongue.

Take RX 7 tablet exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication.

RX 7 pills should be used for only a short time. Do not take this medication for longer than 4 months without your doctor's advice.

RX 7 pill may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Ativan (Lorazepam) should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Store tablets at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

Your symptoms may return when you stop using RX 7 pill Lorazepam tablet after using it over a long period of time. You may also have seizures or withdrawal symptoms when you stop using Ativan. Withdrawal symptoms may include tremor, sweating, muscle cramps, stomach pain, vomiting, unusual thoughts or behavior, and seizure (convulsions).

Contact your doctor if this medicine seems to stop working as well in treating your symptoms. To be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects, your doctor may need to check your progress on a regular basis. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.

Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Benzodiazepines are drugs of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription.

Symptoms of a RX 7 pill overdose may include extreme drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, fainting, or coma.

What should I avoid while taking Lorazepam (Ativan)?

Do not drink alcohol while taking Ativan. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol. Any form of Ativan, including RX 7 pill brand, can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can increase some of the side effects of Ativan and add to sleepiness caused by Ativan tablet.

Accidental falls are common in elderly patients who take benzodiazepines. Use caution to avoid falling or accidental injury while you are taking Ativan in any form, including RX 7 pill formulation. Do not give this medication to a child younger than 12 years old.

Narcotics may increase the sedative effects of this drug. Do not take other sedatives, benzodiazepines or sleeping pills with this drug. The combinations could be fatal. Do not drink alcohol when taking any benzodiazepine. Alcohol can lower blood pressure and decrease your breathing rate to the point of unconsciousness.

The habit-forming potential of this drug is high. Do not stop taking this drug abruptly; this could cause psychological and physical withdrawal symptoms. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.

Ativan tablet may cause dependence, especially if it has been used regularly for an extended time (more than 1-4 weeks), if it has been used in high doses, or if you have a history of alcoholism, drug abuse, or personality disorder. In such cases, if you suddenly stop this drug, withdrawal reactions may occur.

Your symptoms may return when you stop using Ativan/Lorazepam after using it over a long period of time. You may also have seizures or withdrawal symptoms when you stop using lorazepam. Withdrawal symptoms may include tremor, sweating, muscle cramps, stomach pain, vomiting, unusual thoughts or behavior, and seizure.

If directed by your doctor, use RX 7 pill tablet regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day.

Though it is very unlikely to occur, Ativan tablet can also result in abnormal drug-seeking behavior (addiction/habit forming). Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer time than prescribed.

Do not take RX 7 pills if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Do not take this drug if you are breast-feeding.

Do not give RX 7 pills to anyone under 12 and only in small doses if over 60.
